"Here lies the body of George Hindmarsh of Borradon who departed this life October 2nd 1801 aged 75 years"
Percival Hindmarsh 1
"Here lieth Bodies of Percival Hindmarsh of Roukland and his two sons William died April 30th 1748 aged 3 months. James dy'd June ye 1st 1751 aged 5 years. The said Percival dy'd July ye 2nd 1760 aged 66 years Also Hendry his son dy'd Dec ye 5th 1782 aged 23 years Also Eleanor his wife who died Feb 5th 1799 aged 81"
Percival Hindmarsh 2
"Joy in memory of Percival Hindmarsh son of Percival Hindmarsh of Rookland who died January 17th 1820 aged 77 years. Also Eleanor his daughter who died march 20th 1820 aged 37 years. Ann Hindmarsh wife of the above died 9th Feb 1837 aged 89 years. William Hindmarsh son of the above Percival and Ann Hindmarsh died at Alnwick January 8th 1838 aged 58 years."
Thomas Kirkup
"Here lies the body of Thomas Kirkup of Allenton who died 4th June 1792 aged 35 years. George his son died 16th sept 1792 aged 2 years. Francis his son died 13th June 1795 aged 1 year. Mary his wife died 5th Oct 1795" (NB until the stone is cleaned I do not know if the 5s given above are in fact 3s as they look quite similar on lichen covered gravestones)
Alwinton Gravestone Records
A survey of the gravestones in Alwinton Churchyard was made in the 60s and a numbered plan and register is now at the Northumberland Records Office under reference NRO 327. It is quite clear that at that time many of the gravestones were unreadable as the 2 Percival Hindmarsh stones detailed above were listed as just having the names Percival Hindmarsh, no other names were readable.
